Lumen and Cogent turned away from Russia

Within a week, two Internet service providers, known as the ‘backbone’ of the global Internet system, severed ties with Russia over the Ukraine issue. Last Friday, the service agreement was canceled by the international internet service provider 'Cogent Communications'. Earlier in the week, Lumen Technologies Inc. reported that "we have decided to disconnect the network as security risks continue to grow inside Russia." Although the brief statement did not address any issues, Lumen said the move was aimed at "maintaining the integrity of the global Internet and ensuring the security of its own and its customers' networks", raising environmental uncertainties and the risk of state-sponsored action. Both the lumen and the Cogent are important parts of the international arena's Internet connection, the Reuters reported.
